"As a secondary school teacher, a father to two teens and a son to stoke victim elderly parents, I’ve been witness to terrible pressures on those around me as well as feeling crushing pressure on myself.
Painting has been an escape for me through lockdown and beyond. Painting darker images has been particularly cathartic. The images are based on myself, though I’ve attempted to obscure my identity on some, in order address the generic nature of ‘under pressure’. I think if people see themselves in these images, it helps to acknowledge and externalise shared emotions."
