"The subject of mental health is central to my work as throughout my life many close friends and families’ lives have been affected by mental health issues. I have been affected and witnessed the distress and torment serious misunderstood conditions cause. My work now explores mainly my experience of adult male mental health challenges.
At present, along with my art practice, I continue to support people by providing companionship and just someone to talk with for a local support group as a volunteer. My past and present life experience inevitably informs my art practice.
I want society to look closely at those feelings they have when they witness people with mental health challenges in daily life. People who are often scared by what they witness. In my work they can sit inside those feelings and hopefully the fear they experience in everyday life might give rise to some sort of understanding and compassion."
